I am honored to have been asked, with my dear friend Veronica Webb, to be honorary chair at his year’s American Ballet Theater Fall Gala as it marked ABT’s first appearance at Avery Fisher Hall.  To celebrate this remarkable occasion, the Company challenged three of today’s most sought after choreographers – Aszure Barton, Benjamin Millepied, and ABT artist-in residence Alexei Ratmansky – to create new ballets specifically for this iconic stage. We were both present for the historic and stirring moment, when Mrs. Obama chose ABT’s Spring Gala to give her first public platform on the vital importance of arts education.

 The First Lady applauded ABT for reaching thousands of students  in some of the most underserved schools and communities across the nation with its award winning education program. Both as mothers, Veronica and I share belief that even a child’s first encounter with the arts can be a life-changing experience.

I chose to wear a Donna Karan burgundy cashmere long dress which I saw in the window of her Madison Boutique and that stopped me in my tracks! The color is just breathtaking on dark skin and it fit like a glove.  I then proceeded 2 doors down to Fred Leighton to borrow some spectacular jewelry.

For my makeup I ventured into darker burgundy lips and as you all know, I usually go with a nude lip, but I loved it.

The Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute Gala is dubbed as The Party of the Year and this year it was a salute to The Model as a Muse and it was about time. It was a celebration of the real-life heroines of fashion-The Model. It was a multi-generational love fest and there were a lot of models whom I haven’t seen for over 20 years, Lisa Taylor! I met for the first time Twiggy! and was hugged and loved by new girls of the moment like Raquel Zimmerman in the bathroom – no less! And I couldn’t have been more elated to see one of my fave model/ friend Yasmine Le Bon and her gentleman of a husband, Simon Le Bon. I was even one of the first on my feet dancing when Kanye West took the stage and he blew the roof of the Met! For those who are not in the loop… I wore custom made Donna Karan and Fred Leighton jewelry… and my date was Donna Karan as I am her muse. Thank you Anna Wintour for celebrating us!

The 5th Annual Gala Fundraiser for this incredible organization headed by my dear friend Patricia Velasquez was a star studded event and i was being honored to be one of this year’s honoree. From CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, Rosie O’Donell, Andre Balaaz, Russel Simmons and Donna Karan are just some of the few who were there to support this organization I was delighted my dear friend Isaac Mizrahi was there to present my award to me.
