I was beyond flattered when I heard that I was unanimously selected be the recipient of the 2010 CFDA Fashion Icon Award–but I was even more flattered when Barneys New York decided to decorate two of their Madison Avenue-facing windows in my honor! Barneys Creative Director Simon Doonan has spent years dressing the windows of this fab store, and its been a delight to see his creation. His “Iman” installations are both ironic and iconic at the same time. If you don’t live in New York and haven’t yet seen the windows, let me walk you through them. One is covered with a collage of photographs of me that have been shot over the past thirty years–and in the center are the letters of my name, each one sprouting its own crazy coif!

When Simon was asked about this, he said, “In all fashion pictures of Iman, she’s invariably wearing some sort of wig or an incredible hairdo of fluorescent colors. People have often made her into a lioness; this is window is about transformation.”

i was searching for islamic term “iman” when i came across totally by incident to your website. Just to remind your blog readers “iman” means core or fundamentals of faith. What a beautiful name to have. Then i looked into your biography and it sound like you born to Muslim family. I want to remind you as my mother in Islam, i think you should sincerely seek forgives from your Creator. How many years left for you to live, very short even if you have to live up 100 years old? Ask for guidance and for forgiveness from Allah, you know very well that Allah is the most merciful and forgives all sins. When i remind say this i am far from being perfect man and i have my share of sin too. May Allah forgive me, you and all humanity. Amin.
